The Town of Stephenville is located on the north shore of Bay St. George in South-Western Newfoundland and Labrador. It is the second largest community on the west coast of the Province with a population of approximately 7000. Stephenville is the hub of the Bay St. George area and functions as the regional service centre for a catchment area for a population of approximately 25,000. The town has a modern 42 bed hospital, several banks, retail and wholesale businesses, restaurants, hotels, recreation facilities, government offices, and medical services. To promote a healthy lifestyle the recreation opportunities in Stephenville are immeasurable, with an 18 hole links golf course, hiking trails, a regional Aquatic Centre, the Whaleback Nordic Ski Club which offers exceptional cross country skiing, a stadium that offers Olympic size ice surface, access to world-class Atlantic Salmon-producing rivers and much more.
Stephenville has a well trained and capable workforce with a thriving education system that boasts the Provincial Headquarters of the College of the North Atlantic (CNA). The College of the North Atlantic has a very strong presence in the Bay St. George area. The CNA Martin Gallant Campus in Stephenville Crossing offers industrial/mechanical programs and they have developed a heavy equipment field site to provide students with on the job training. The CNA LA Bown Campus offers programs in Business, Office Administration, Recording Arts, Music, Comprehensive Arts and Science, and Adult Basic Education. The CNA D.S.B Fowlow Campus offers Digital Animation, Journalism, Hospitality Tourism Management, Community Studies, Paramedicine, Practical Nursing, Cooking, Video Game Design, Film and Video, and Conversation Law. The Qatar office provides recruitment and management support for the College of the North Atlantic Qatar Campus.
Stephenville also has a private College. Western College offers various business programs and has expanded its services by opening a second location in Stephenville to accommodate the increase in enrolment. Stephenville is also proud to have the Safety and Emergency Response Training (SERT) Centre, a division of the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University. The SERT Centre in Stephenville has been recognized nationally and internationally for its programs and strives to provide innovative and critical training for long-term employment in our Province.
